Wisdom in Perilous Times, Part 9

Wisdom in Perilous Times, Part 9

I have been on a hunt for Bible verses that I feel led to memorize.  Proverbs 10 has several of those treasures to help up in these times when we need to stand firm, but may feel fear rising up, trying to get us to compromise to save our jobs, our reputations, our families, our money, etc.

To help in this, we need to look deeper at the word compromise.  Basically, when we choose to compromise, we believe we can hold onto our idol and have Jesus too.  However, we are to have no other gods before the Lord. (Exodus 20:3) So when we think compromise, we could easily insert the word wickedness because having other idols before the Lord is wickedness.

“Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, But righteousness delivers from death.  The Lord will not allow the righteous soul to famish, But He casts away the desire of the wicked.” (Proverbs 10:2-3, NKJV)

“The wise in heart will receive commands, But a prating fool will fall.” Proverbs 10:8, NKJV) It is imperative in a world of chaos and clamour that we train ourselves to listen for the voice of the Lord.

“He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known.” (Proverbs 10:9, NKJV)

“Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding…” (Proverbs 10:13, NKJV)

“Wise people store up knowledge, But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.” (Proverbs 10:14, NKJV)  This verse reiterates the importance of having discretion, and knowing when to keep our mouths shut.  Social media has caused a huge surge of people always wanting to share their opinions.  We need to retrain ourselves if that is a weakness for us.

“In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.” (Proverbs 10:19, NKJV)  Again, we see the wisdom of learning to keep our mouths shut.  Jesus warned us not to cast our pearls before the swine. (Matthew 7:6) The world is full of swine, and many of them reside in the apostate church.

Do you often feel weary and worn with all that is happening in the world today?  I leave you with a final thought to encourage you.  “The way of the Lord is strength for the upright.” (Proverbs 10:29, NKJV)  The Interlinear Bible describes strength as a place or means of safety, protection, refuge, or a stronghold.

Lord, help us to find that refuge in You and Your Word.  There is no other god like our God.  Help us to be faithful, and to walk in integrity until You call us home.  Amen.
